Dr. Debora Spar Officiates Graduation in REALLY HIGH Heeled Sandals!

Barnard College President Debora Spar climbed the stairs to the podium for the Barnard Class of 2013 Graduation in probably the highest heels yet worn by any college president … anywhere!  The Shoe Lady is completely relieved that there were no reports of her tripping or falling.

Apparently Dr. Spar has given some thought to shoes as well as other matters pertaining to the lives of women. The Shoe Lady has grabbed a look at her soon to be released latest book,   WONDER WOMEN:  SEX, POWER AND THE QUEST FOR PERFECTION.  The Shoe Lady notes that the position in which the woman on the book cover is wearing HER high heels is far safer than the position the author chose, climbing stairs in these high heeled, colorful and very attractive sandals.  The Shoe Lady does, however, commend her for choosing sandals in the colors of DesignerShoes.com

Pewter Formal Evening Dress – What Color Shoes?

I have a pewter dress but not sure what color of shoes to wear can you please help me ?

My Dear Claudia –

Not enough information!
I need to understand the type of dress in order to recommend shoes.  If it is a slinky strapless dressy evening gown, I’m going to recommend strappy sandals, as bare as you can get.  Think clear straps with maybe some rhinestones.
If it is a pewter colored “business attire” dress with a high collar, long sleeves and knee length skirt, I’m going to recommend black slingbacks.
Help me out with more information!

How nice in these casual times to hear my readers are having the opportunity to attend such a dressy event.  Perhaps you are planning for the next Presidential Inauguration?
I am going to go with my original recommendation, high heel strappy sandals, thin straps, rhinestones if possible.  Clear plastic straps would be fine.  Pewter or silver straps, also fine.

I am assuming Congratulations are in order?!  Not sure which country, but it sounds like you are aiming to honor a flag of red and blue?  Very nice!
I am seeing some navy blue slingbacks.  It would be charming if you could find some shoe clips that had a red flower to clip on the vamp.

Dear Janet,
You are dressing for “business” attire.  You certainly can wear a high heeled shoe but most business attire shoes are in the 2.5 inch range.  And a navy blue shoe is generally considered to be for business attire so there are not many styles made in that color with higher heels.
