Do I Have High Arches?
Posted on January 17, 2012 | 2 CommentsDear Shoe Lady, I measured my foot to be 21cm long and 8cm wide. By your guide this makes me a UK size 2-2.5 My problem is that whenever I buy this size shoe the length and width often fit perfectly but the shape of the shoe never fits my foot! I will try to describe the problem as best I can! It feels like I need to push my foot further back into the shoe in order to get the contact I need for it to feel comfortable at the arch. This is especially the case with heels, even... -
Narrow Feet – Toes Too Tight and Heels Too Loose
Posted on January 6, 2012 | 2 CommentsDear Shoe Lady, My foot measures 10 inches long and 3 and a quarter inches wide at widest part of largest foot. Is that 10 and a half, narrow? Some narrows are a bit tight in the toes, but mediums are so wide in the heel, I can’t keep them on my foot. I do okay with flats, but when the heel is elevated, it is hard to keep them on. Thanks for your help. Dearest Barbara, With a length of 10 and width of 3.25 puts your size as 9.5 Narrow (N or AA). What size are you currently... -

Posted on January 5, 2012 | No CommentsDear Shoe Lady, I am about to purchase shoes but just want to confirm size conversions. I am Australian wearing size 7.5 to 8 dependent on style. I believe I am a US 8, but its the width I need to check on. I believe I am a C width shoe here in Australia.. which I believe is a wider fit….can you advise. Thank you Dee Dear Dee, I am so glad you came to us for help! Actually, an Australian women’s size 7.5 is equivalent to a US size 9, while the size 8 is a US size 9.5.... -
How to Convert Men’s to Women’s Shoe Sizes
Posted on January 4, 2012 | 2 CommentsDear Shoe Lady, I am a men’s size 9. What does that translate to in women’s shoes, particularly high heels? Thank you -N Good Day N, The first step in converting a man’s shoe size to a woman’s is to measure your feet! Refer to this recent post for step by step instructions. Without your your length and width measurements (so important) I will use the given men’s size 9 which converts to a women’s size 10.5. Depending on the style you desire I selected a couple shoes which happen to be favorites of mine. Always remember pedicures are your... -
How to Measure Your Feet
Posted on December 29, 2011 | 2 CommentsDear Shoe Lady, My feet have gotten wider as I have aged and have a bunion on left foot. As well lost a considerable amount of weight of the last two years. Not sure what I size I actually wear now. How do I measure my feet? Dear Linda from Dallas, Congratulations on your weight loss and keeping it off for over 2 years! With weight loss comes a reduction in the width of your foot and at times even the length. Good idea to measure again at your new svelte weight! Here is a how to guide and the... -
Heels Slip Out While Dancing
Posted on December 7, 2011 | No CommentsDear Shoe Lady, About 15 years ago I bought a pair of easy spirit shoes that fit me better than any shoes I have ever had. I believe they were labeled something like M A/B but I don’t remember exactly. I am a size 7 and 1/2 but the ball of my foot is wide and the heel is narrow and my arch is high. My feet look great in most shoes but I like to dance and have trouble with fitting my high arch and wide ball into a pair of 7 and 1/2 heels so I have to... -
Wide vs. Extra Wide Width
Posted on December 6, 2011 | No CommentsDear Shoe Lady, How do you know what size to order wide vs. extra wide? Dear Maddie, Thank you so much for your question! To achieve the most comfortable and accurate width fit you MUST measure the width of your feet. Women do not believe the width measurement is an important one but they couldn’t be more wrong! Think about the difference in inches between a wide and extra wide width. It’s 0.4 inches. Imagine having to cram your toes into a shoe that is a half an inch too small. Painful! The benefits of taking the time to measure... -

About Shoe Widths
Posted on November 9, 2011 | No CommentsI’ve been getting a ton of questions about the meaning of certain terms used to describe the width of a shoe. I thought I should write up a quick post to explain the meaning of each term. Knowledge is power so here we go! Shoe manufacturers have standardized rules for how to measure length but shoe width measurements are much more variable. There is some general agreement that a shoe increases 3/16th of an inch around the circumference of the ball of the foot for every increase in width for the same length. But different manufacturers accomplish the extra width...
